What is Disc Golf
Much like traditional golf, your goal is to throw your disc into the basket in as few throws as possible. Courses are often 18-holes ranging from Par 3 to 5. The learning curve for disc golf is much more forgiving though, and even a total beginner can play a short course like the one on Washington & Lee’s back campus from the red tee pads (shortest). Another similarity with golf is that an experienced player will often have a range of discs in their bag for different shots, like putters, fairway drivers, and distance drivers.
How to Get Started
All you really need to start playing disc golf is one good putter or mid-range disc. Discs start at $10 for the cheapest plastic, which flies great but will get beat up if you hit trees. Then just get out and play! Once your technique sharpens up, you can pick up drivers or more advanced discs with special flight paths. We sell discs at Just Games because we love to play disc golf, so we have the knowledge to help you select the right starter disc.
Where to Play
Check out the map for directions to Washington & Lee’s 18-hold disc golf course, which is free and open to the public. There are three tee pads for beginner (red), intermediate (white), and advanced (blue) players. Hole 1 is to the left of the pavilion if you park near the Duchossois Tennis Center. You can also check out other nearby courses at UDisc.com.
