Board Game Summer Camp (beginner)
Learn a new hobby, make new friends!
What is Board Game Camp?
Board game camp is an opportunity to play new and interesting board games with peers, fostering friendships and fun! The benefits of board games, aside from a plain old good time, are many. They teach good sportsmanship, help develop children’s and teens’ executive function, lengthen attention spans, and soothe anxiety for kids who prefer more structure in their social interactions. We split our camps into recommended age groups and experience levels so that we can specifically tailor the games to each group so that kids are challenged and engaged.
Is the beginner camp right for my kid?
The beginner camp will be most appropriate for kids ages 8 to 9. Children older than 9 may sign up if you feel these shorter, simpler games are a better fit and if they have the patience to play with younger kids. The camp sessions are not as long, there is a higher staff-to-child ratio, and the games will be simple and not longer than half an hour each.
It is NOT intended for kids to “graduate” to the next level camp within the same summer, as the level has more to do with cognitive level, maturity, and ability to remain focused and is only minorly aided by extensive board game playing at home.
Examples of Beginner Games
The following are examples of games we’ll play during this camp. You can click on the game name to see a short video on how it is played:
What are the dates/times?
Each camp is one week long (Tuesday through Friday) and specific to one age/experience level, as follows:
June 18 – 21, Beginner REGISTRATION CLOSED
June 25 – 28, Intermediate
Break for the week of July 4
July 9-12, Advanced
July 16-19, Beginner
July 23-26, Intermediate
July 30 – Aug 2, Advanced
Beginner camps meet from 3:30 to 5
Intermediate camps meet from 3 to 5
Advanced camps meet from 2:30 to 5
How much does camp cost?
Prior to May 1, the early-bird price for each week of board game camp is $90, which includes a choice of a game to bring home at the end of the week (up to $30 value). After May 1 the price for each week is $115 (also includes a $30 game credit). You may be wondering why every camp is the same price, despite the younger groups meeting for a shorter session. This is because the younger groups will have a higher staff to child ratio.
If you must cancel your registration you will receive a full refund if cancelled BEFORE May 1, and a 50% refund if cancelled after May but before 10 days out of the start of the camp week you are cancelling. Within 10 days of camp start, a 50% refund will be considered in the event of the death of an immediate family member, sickness, injury, or a positive COVID-19 result for your child or child’s household member (verification from physician or positive COVID-19 test required). Thank you for understanding that our camp staff hiring and training are carried out well in advance of the start of camp to provide the best experience for your child!
What if my child cannot attend every day?
We are limited by the size of our play area and so the only way to guarantee a spot for your child is to sign up for a full week as early as possible.
How do I sign up?
Book your camp registration at the bottom of the page. Please note that only the camp type (beginner, intermediate, etc) for the event page you are on will be displayed. This page is for the BEGINNER camp. If you are signing up more than one kid for DIFFERENT levels and/or weeks, that checkout must be done separately. If you are signing up more than one kid for the SAME levels and weeks, they can be completed together.
